Meinklang Gruner Veltliner
From the heart of Austria’s Burgenland, Meinklang’s Grüner Veltliner perfectly captures the uniquely vibrant terroir of the region. The wine is made on the Meinklang family’s holistic farm, where biodynamic practices are followed with an almost dogmatic fervor. The vineyards coexist with livestock, orchards, and wild flora, all thriving from the nutrient rich sandy-loam soils near Lake Neusiedl. Farming is Demeter-certified and the winemaking follows a minimal-intervention ethos: hand-harvested grapes are pressed gently and fermented spontaneously with native yeasts in stainless steel to retain freshness and aromatic lift, followed by four months aging on fine lees to build texture and depth. The wine is bottled unfined, unfiltered, and with only a small addition of sulfur at bottling. The result is a Grüner with both energy and nuance. Zesty lime, green apple skin, and white grapefruit, alongside floral notes of elderflower and a classic hit of white pepper flow from the glass. On the palate, it's bone dry with crisp acidity and a touch of phenolic grip, delivering flavors of pear, lemon zest, crushed herbs, and a chalky minerality that lingers on the finish. At under 12% ABV, it’s light-bodied and easy to drink while at the same time a serious study of Gruner Veltliner and a reflection of place. Fresh, expressive, and entirely alive.
