Gamble Estates Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
The Gamble Estates Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is a vineyard-driven expression that marries the gravitas of Napa’s finest terroirs with a poised, restrained elegance. Crafted from estate-grown fruit from notable vineyard blocks in Oakville, Rutherford, Yountville, and Mount Veeder that span volcanic, alluvial, and rocky soils. The final blend is comprised of approximately 79% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14% Cabernet Franc, 5% Merlot, and 2% Petit Verdot reflecting classic Bordeaux varietal balance through a California lens. Free-run juice yields showcase purity of fruit, with minimal handling and no filtration. The grapes undergo a 14–24 day maceration, followed by élevage in 38% new French oak barrels (for 16 months); a regimen that builds texture and aromatic complexity without obscuring site signature. On the nose, expect a polished interplay of cassis, blackberry, pressed violets, cedar, and black licorice with hints of tobacco leaf, graphite, and baking spice. These aromatics are delivered with freshness and clarity, not heaviness. The palate is medium-to-full-bodied and impeccably structured. Silken, well-integrated tannins provide a firm backbone, seamlessly supporting a core of ripe black and red fruit, cocoa nibs, dried herb, and dusted graphite. Despite its depth, there's a lift and refinement often missing from Napa powerhouses, this is Cabernet with tension and poise.
