Matteo Corregia Nebbiolo Roero DOCG

$ 26.00

The Roero Nebbiolo from Matteo Correggia is a quietly powerful Nebbiolo from the sandy hillsides of Roero, just across the Tanaro River from Barolo. Once an ancient seabed, these fine, pale soils, tend to give Nebbiolo a lighter color and more perfumed aromatics, while still delivering plenty of structure. Farmed organically, the fruit is hand-harvested and vinified with a short, gentle maceration of about a week to emphasize lift and freshness rather than extraction. After fermentation in stainless steel elevage in neutral wood for a minimum of six months strikes a balance between supple texture and purity of fruit. In the glass, it shimmers a translucent garnet. The nose is highly aromatic, with violets, wild strawberries, sour cherry, and blood orange, layered with hints of licorice, spice, and subtle earth. On the palate lively and precise notes of juicy red fruit are framed by fine, chalky tannins and brisk acidity. There’s a distinctive saline, mineral-driven quality on the finish that keeps it bright and mouthwatering, making it instantly appealing while still echoing the seriousness of Nebbiolo’s character. This is a wine that leans into elegance over weight; expressive now, but capable of softening and gaining complexity over the next decade. Try it with mushroom risotto, roasted root vegetables, truffle pasta, or even simply alongside a plate of aged cheeses and salumi. Bringing both charm and pedigree, Matteo Correggia’s Roero Nebbiolo shows why this often-overlooked corner of Piedmont deserves attention.
