Punset Barbera d'Alba

$ 28.00

Punset’s Barbera d’Alba evokes both the character of Neive and the precise, thoughtful hand of winemaker Marina Marcarino, one of the earliest advocates of organic and biodynamic viticulture in Barbaresco. Grown on calcareous clay soils at moderate altitudes, the Barbera grape benefits from excellent drainage, healthy diurnal shifts, and an overall microclimate that allows for slow, even ripening. In the cellar, fermentation is carried out with native yeasts in temperature-controlled tanks, and aging takes place in a combination of stainless steel and large neutral oak, designed to preserve the natural energy and expressive fruit profile while softening its edges. On the nose, it is open and layered, with black cherry, ripe raspberry, and blueberry compote giving way to notes of lavender, dried herbs, and leather. The palate is vibrant, driven by the hallmark acidity of Barbera, which gives lift and tension to the ripe fruit. What sets this wine apart is its balance and length; tannins are present but polished, and the acidity is mouthwatering without being sharp. There’s a distinct earthy and savory core, almost saline at times, that hints at the meticulous vineyard work and natural winemaking approach behind it. This is not a heavy or oak-laden Barbera, but a pure and agile expression that evolves with air and pairs beautifully with Piedmontese staples like vitello tonnato or agnolotti del plin.
