Benjamin Leroux Bourgogne Rouge
Benjamin Leroux’s Bourgogne Rouge delivers a remarkable degree of finesse and depth, shaped by Leroux’s precise touch and his access to an enviable range of vineyard sites. Sourced from parcels across the Côte d’Or including Hautes-Côtes de Nuits, Santenay, Beaune, Ladoix, Savigny-lès-Beaune, and Fixin; it benefits from a mosaic of exposures and soil types that contribute nuance and complexity. The fruit is hand-harvested, mostly de-stemmed, and fermented with native yeasts in open vats, followed by a gentle maceration to draw out supple tannins without excess extraction. Élevage lasts about twelve months in older French oak barrels, with no fining or filtration, allowing the wine’s purity and aromatic detail to shine. In the glass, it shows a translucent garnet hue. The nose is lifted and engaging, offering a mix of wild strawberry, red cherry, and raspberry, accented by violets, a whisper of underbrush, and a faint spice note from its time in barrel. The palate is lively and precise, balancing juicy red fruit with an undercurrent of stony minerality and savory herb. Silky tannins and bright acidity give it both approachability and a fine, lingering finish. This is a Bourgogne Rouge that punches well above its weight; versatile enough for a weekday roast chicken yet refined enough to serve alongside mushroom risotto or duck breast with cherries. It’s proof that even at the regional level, Leroux crafts Pinot Noir with precision, charm, and sophistication.
