Marziano Abbona Barolo

Marziano Abbona Barolo is traditional Barolo as it’s meant to be. Rooted in the sandy-clay-loam soils of Monforte d’Alba, the vineyards are organically tended with mature vines of thirty-five plus years, yielding Nebbiolo that balances concentration with precision. After harvest, the grapes are destemmed and gently crushed before undergoing a minimal 24-hour cold soak, followed by a spontaneous, three-week plus fermentation in stainless steel with pump-overs daily. The wine is then transferred to 25-hectoliter barrels to complete malolactic fermentation and mature for over three full years.  Bottling is unfined and unfiltered and followed by another maturation period before release. In the glass, it gleams a vivid crimson that slowly gives way to a brick hue with fragrant notes of red berries, citrus peel, and eucalyptus leaf, layered with hints of licorice, leather, and a cool, balsamic spine. On the palate, it reveals fleshy plum and sour cherry, lifted by vivid acidity and anchored by a slightly saline grip. Fine-grained tannins are strikingly present yet polished, carrying a long, refined finish that offers both elegance and substantive structure. This is Barolo that feels timeless yet accessible. Alive and savory now, but built for graceful longevity. It pairs spectacularly with rich, slow-roasted meats, truffle-infused risottos, or aged cheeses, and remains compelling by itself in moments both contemplative and celebratory.
