Girolamo Russo Nerina Etna Bianco

$ 50.00

Girolamo Russo's Nerina is a carefully composed field blend that captures the high-altitude intensity and volcanic complexity of Etna’s northern slopes. It is anchored by Carricante, Etna’s signature white varietal, alongside smaller portions of Catarratto, Grecanico, Inzolia, Minnella, and occasionally other local cultivars. The vines are situated at around 700 meters elevation in the Contrada of San Lorenzo, where cool temperatures and ashy, basaltic soils imbue the wine with remarkable minerality and aromatic nuance. The fruit is harvested by hand and fermented with native yeasts, predominantly in stainless steel, with a portion aged in neutral oak to enhance textural depth without imposing flavor. On the nose, Nerina offers a evolving bouquet of grapefruit pith, lemon balm, white peach, chamomile, almond skin, and volcanic stone, with hints of fennel and sea spray. The palate is energetic and multilayered with bright acid and marine salinity, yet creamy in its mid-palate from time on the lees, finishing with a lingering phenolic grip and a distinct smoky undertone. It’s ideally suited to complex pairings like octopus salad, bottarga, or grilled swordfish, but it also holds its own alongside richer cheeses or poultry dishes. A wine that is both cerebral and easily enjoyed, Nerina reflects Girolamo Russo’s quiet mastery and finesse.
